Mim Atkinson

Mim Atkinson is an Australian artist based on the Surf Coast, working in oil on canvas. Her practice centres on highly textured abstract landscapes informed by the coastal environment and its shifting light, movement, and atmosphere.

Through a process of layering, excavation, and intuitive mark-making, Atkinson builds surfaces that prioritise materiality and mood over representation. Her work explores the relationship between place and memory, inviting quiet contemplation rather than literal interpretation.

 

After a 21-year career in real estate, Atkinson recently returned to painting following her retirement, bringing renewed focus to a long-standing artistic practice grounded in observation, process, and place.
